Yacht Trips in Dubai: Weather, Permits and the Route

Who decides whether a yacht sails

Whether a private yacht leaves the marina on a given day is not decided by the operator or by us. Sailing permits are issued by the coast guard, and the decision for the day comes by 09:00 on the day of your charter. We pass it on as soon as we know.

That is the single most useful thing to understand about weather and yachts in Dubai: a cloudy morning, a breeze or a forecast you do not like are not, on their own, reasons a charter does or does not go ahead. The permit is.

How you hear about the decision

We pass the coast guard's decision on as soon as we have it, on the channel you chose when you sent your request. For a morning charter that can be close to departure, so keep your phone with you on the morning of the trip and leave your guests a way to reach you.

If you have not heard from us and the charter is today, the confirmation you received carries the request reference — quote it on WhatsApp and we can answer straight away.

If no permit is issued

If the coast guard issues no permit for your charter, you choose between a full refund and a free reschedule to another date. It is your choice, not ours. A refund goes back to the original payment method within 7 business days.

If a permit is issued but the sea is rough

Sometimes a permit is issued while the sea is still choppy. In that case the charter goes ahead and the captain may keep the route to sheltered water — along the Marina and the coast rather than out to the Palm or the Burj Al Arab. That is not grounds for cancellation: the yacht, the hours and the price stay as booked.

If you would rather not sail on a lively sea, the cancellation policy below applies exactly as it would on any other day — so the earlier you decide, the more options you keep.

The route, and why it can change

On a calm day the standard routes look like this. A 2-hour charter runs from the departure point past Dubai Marina, the JBR beachfront and Ain Dubai to a view of the Burj Al Arab and back. A 3-hour charter adds Atlantis on the Palm and a swim stop. A 4-hour charter adds a longer stop at anchor.

Those are the routes when conditions allow, not a promise of every landmark. The exact route is the captain's call on the day, because sea state and the permit conditions decide what is sensible. Departures are from the Dubai Marina / Dubai Harbour area — the exact meeting point is confirmed with your booking.

The weather through the year (general guidance)

As general guidance, November to March is the most comfortable time to be on deck: warm days, cooler evenings and the clearest skies. April and October are hotter but still pleasant early and late in the day. June to September is the hottest and most humid stretch; charters still run, but morning and evening departures and a yacht with plenty of shade make the difference.

As general guidance, rain is uncommon in Dubai, and when it comes it rarely lasts. Heat and humidity shape a trip far more often than rain does.

Wind, haze and fog (general guidance)

As general guidance, north-westerly winds — locally called the shamal — can raise the sea on some days of the year. These are the days when a permit may come with a sheltered-water route, or not come at all. Late-summer humidity can flatten the horizon into haze, which softens sunset photographs, and winter mornings can bring fog that usually lifts as the day warms.

None of these can be predicted far ahead with any precision. That is why the permit, decided on the day, is what counts — and why the refund-or-reschedule choice exists.

Water activities and conditions

Water activities are weather-dependent and never guaranteed, even when the yacht itself sails. A jet ski is available in the JBR area only, and a damage waiver is signed on board before use; inflatables are limited. All water activities are daylight only, and none is offered on a charter starting at 18:00 or later. If conditions on the day mean a water-sports extra cannot go ahead, that extra is refunded in full.

If you need to cancel or move the date

You can cancel or move the date free of charge up to 96 hours (4 days) before departure, with a full refund. Between 96 and 48 hours before, 50% of the charter is charged, and food, beverages and personalised items already ordered are not refundable. Inside 48 hours, or a no-show, there is no refund. Your cancellation counts from the moment your written notice — on WhatsApp or by email — reaches us, in Dubai time (GST, UTC+4).

If the yacht becomes unavailable

Weather is not the only thing that can change a plan. If the yacht you booked becomes unavailable — a technical problem, for example — you choose between a comparable alternative yacht and a full refund. The full policy is on the cancellation page.

Choosing a date with the weather in mind

If your dates are flexible, the cooler months give the most reliable deck weather. If the occasion fixes the date, book it anyway: the permit rules protect you either way. Choose a morning departure when calm water matters — for swimming or for children — and a late-afternoon one when the light matters more. The planner shows every start time and length the day allows, with the estimated price, before you send anything; nothing is booked until we confirm it in writing, and no payment is taken on this website.
