What a private sunset cruise actually is
A shared sunset cruise is forty strangers on a scheduled boat with a fixed route and a bar. A private sunset charter is one yacht, your group, and a route the captain adjusts to the light. You choose when to leave, where to stop, whether to swim, what plays through the speakers, and how long to sit in one place because the sky is doing something worth sitting still for. The difference is not luxury — it is control over the two hours that matter.
Boarding is in the Dubai Marina / Dubai Harbour area. Boat Party Dubai plans and manages the charter end to end and works with licensed yacht operators there, so there is one team to deal with from the first message to the moment you step back onto the pontoon. We are a brand of Prestige Voyage Tourism L.L.C, a tour operator licensed by Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism under licence 1573075.
When the sun sets, and when to leave
Sunset in Dubai moves across the year, roughly between 17:30 in December and 19:15 in June. The light worth photographing starts about forty minutes before that and holds for maybe twenty minutes after. So the departure that works is one that has you clear of the Marina and out in open water before golden hour begins, not during it.
In practice that means a start around 17:00 in winter and around 18:30 in summer. Charters can start any time between 09:00 and 20:00 and must be alongside again by 23:00. Tell us the date in the request and we will say which start time puts you in the right place.
One thing to plan around: all water activities are daylight-only and are not offered on a charter starting at 18:00 or later. A summer sunset start and a jet ski are mutually exclusive; go out earlier if you want both.
How long to book
The minimum is 2 hours, and 3 hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Two hours covers the sunset itself if you leave at the right time. Three fits the whole arc: out before the light turns, a stop while it does, and the run back along a skyline that has just switched its lights on — which is a different photograph from the one you went out for.
The route and what you see
The standard run takes you from the Marina past the towers, out to Bluewaters Island and Ain Dubai, down along the JBR beachfront and across to the Burj Al Arab, which sits with the sun behind it in the second half of the year. Three-hour charters add Atlantis and a swim stop; four-hour charters add a longer stop at anchor. The exact route is the captain's call on the day, because sea state and the permit conditions decide what is sensible.
What it costs
Charters are priced per hour, per yacht, never per person. The lowest rate in the fleet is AED 700 per hour, so a two-hour sunset charter starts at AED 1,400 (≈ €335). There are 13 yachts between 40 and 110 feet and up to 75 guests, and a larger yacht simply costs more per hour. No VAT is added: the company is not VAT-registered.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday carry the three-hour minimum, so the weekend starting figure is AED 2,100. Two dates are quoted on request rather than at the standard rate: 31 December and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend of 3–6 December 2026. Every figure here is an estimate until we have checked the date and confirmed it in writing, and no payment is taken on this website.
Food and photography at golden hour
Catering is pre-order only. The fixed-price platters suit a sunset charter better than a cooked menu, because nobody wants to be at a table when the light goes: a fruit platter is AED 220, a charcuterie board AED 550 and a sushi platter AED 600. If you do want a full menu, the Hotdogs & Burgers Menu is AED 135 per guest, the Regular BBQ Menu AED 210 and the Veggie Menu AED 170.
This is the charter where photography earns its cost. A photographer is AED 800 per hour and a videographer AED 1,050 per hour; one hour booked across the golden-hour window is usually enough. For an anniversary or a proposal at sunset there is also the "Will You Marry Me?" neon sign at AED 550 and balloon setups from AED 350.
Weather, permits and what happens if
A sailing permit is issued by the coast guard, and the decision for the day comes by 09:00. No permit means you choose between a full refund and a free reschedule. If the permit is issued but the sea is rough, the captain may keep the route to sheltered water — that is not grounds for cancellation, and on a sunset run it often makes little difference to what you see. Haze can flatten the horizon in the humid late-summer months, which is worth knowing when you pick a date.
Booking, deposit and cancellation
A request is not a booking. We check the date with the operator, confirm in writing, and only then is anything held. A 50% deposit secures the date and the balance is due 48 hours before departure. A card payment link carries a 5% processing fee; a bank transfer costs nothing from our side.
Free cancellation or date change up to 96 hours (4 days) before departure, refunded in full within 7 business days. Between 96 and 48 hours, 50% of the charter is charged, and food and personalised items already ordered are not refundable. Inside 48 hours or a no-show, no refund.
Charters include water, soft drinks, tea & coffee, ice, crew and fuel. Departures are from the Dubai Marina / Dubai Harbour area — the exact meeting point is confirmed with your booking, and parking details come with the confirmation. Every guest needs a valid Emirates ID or an original passport — copies are not accepted.
Sunset cruise questions
- What time should we leave?
- Around 17:00 in winter, around 18:30 in summer — about forty minutes before sunset, so you are already in open water when the light turns. Tell us your date and we will give you the exact time.
- Is two hours enough?
- For the sunset itself, yes. Three hours is what people say they wished they had booked, because it includes the lit skyline on the way back.
- Can we swim at sunset?
- On three-hour and longer charters there is a swim stop, conditions permitting. The water is warm; the light is the reason to be in it.
- Can we have jet skis too?
- Not on a charter starting at 18:00 or later — every water activity is daylight-only. Start earlier and you can have both.
- Is the yacht private?
- Yes. You book the whole yacht; besides your guests, only the crew is on board.
- How far ahead should we book?
- Weekend evenings go first. The earliest selectable date is two days out, but a week or two gives you a real choice of yacht.
